The University of New Mexico and the National Institute of Flamenco will host a unique event, “Flamenco Research Symposium : New Perspectives on Flamenco,” in conjunction with the Festival Flamenco Internacional de Albuquerque. Proposals for papers and lecture-demonstrations will be accepted on all topics of flamenco history and theory. The purpose of this research symposium is to engage scholars in a conversation about the multifaceted aspects of flamenco in the United States and abroad. Festival Flamenco Internacional de Albuquerque has been bringing world-class flamenco performing artists to this country for over 25 years. The addition of a scholarly element for discussions of the theory, history, and culture behind this art form is a timely and important addition to the Festival.
We are seeking submissions for 20-minute paper presentations or lecture-demonstrations of 20-40 minutes. Please send :
