Appel à communication • En cadence, s’il vous plait !, 9-10 novembre 2012, Boulogne-Billancourt

•> Date limite : 15 août 2012

Following the success of the Not Just Ginger and Fred dance and cinema conference in Autumn 2011, the European Association of Dance Historians gladly announces the second in the “Dance &...” conference series

En cadence, s’il vous plait !
A two-day conference on the relationship(s) between theatre dance and music

Friday 9th and Saturday 10th November 2012
Conservatoire de Boulogne-Billancourt
Centre George Gorse
22 Rue de la Belle-Feuille,
92100 Boulogne-Billancourt Paris

The aim of the conference is to facilitate the exchange of views and discourses on the relationship between theatre dance and music. As such it provides a platform for historians, theorists, and practitioners wishing to address and explore the interaction – or “struggle”, as Igor Stravinsky once said - of the two arts from diverse angles and perspectives.

The Conference Committee invites proposals from practitioners and scholars working in or across the two fields and on any era of performance history, whose work engages critical and historical questions relating but not limited to :

  • Specific artists, works and collaborations.
  • Composing for dance in the past, the present and the future
  • Dancing to the existing musical repertoire : popular and classical music.
  • Hybrid forms and genres : choreographing intermedii, intermezzi, opéra-ballet, opera ballets, incidental dances and contemporary opera productions.
  • Crossing cultures in theatre dance and music.

Proposals, in either French or English, should take the form of an abstract (max. 250 words). Full-length papers will not be accepted. Individual presentations should not exceed 20 minutes and can be delivered in either French or English.

All proposals should include :

  • Full title of proposed paper.
  • The presenter’s full name, contact details and institutional affiliation (if any).
  • Short curriculum vitae – maximum 150 words.
  • A list of audiovisual and other requirements (data projector, CD/DVD player, OHP, piano etc.).

All submissions must be received by August 15, 2012 and should be sent as email attachments to : conferences@eadh.com
Acceptance will be communicated by September 1, 2012.
